March 2021

Dear members:

There are number of new items and updates which we wanted to share with all members.

Crime warning – On 26th February in the early evening a person walking in Bury Walk was mugged and a Rolex watch stolen at knifepoint.  According to police the victim is okay, but was injured in the attack. There have been a number of other similar incidents in nearby streets, including near Chelsea Green and Markham Street.  This robbery was by 2 men riding on a single moped. Mopeds/scooters are increasingly being used in robberies, and 2 on 1 moped is an unusual sight so it’s important to be aware of this.

Both iPhones and Rolex watches are targets for theft. In addition, the victim in this attack resisted and was stabbed in the leg, which is why the Police do not recommend struggling.

Please ensure that you are careful and aware of your surroundings when out walking or commuting, even in our neighbourhood. In addition, the police recommend not using your mobile while walking and also to consider installing CCTV and Ring doorbells for safety. We will continue to share the police updates.

Waitrose – the King’s Road Waitrose has now re-opened in a smaller format while they do work on the store over the next 18 months. The store manager has provided an update for us to share with SSDRA members – see here

Auriens – the construction firm (Multiplex) has shared their winter newsletter with us here. They are continuing to progress with interior work, including kitchens, bathrooms, and heating, as well as the exterior landscaping.

Brompton – the Brompton Hospital construction firm (Kier) has shared their February newsletter with us here.   Their main focus is currently on the interior fit-out of the new imaging building on Dovehouse Street.

Old post office – the firm developing the Old Post Office site at 18-20 Chelsea Manor Street has just informed us that they expect to start demolition in mid May. As a reminder this project was approved in mid 2018 – see the RBKC site for PP/18/00189 here:   The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea | Planning Search (rbkc.gov.uk) for more information and diagrams. We have reviewed the CTMP (Construction traffic management plan) and believe that they will need to very carefully manage the interaction between this construction and the work already in process at the Waitrose / Habitat / Curzon site.

Library –  the RBKC library has published their March newsletter and information on their services –  K&C Libraries Newsletter – March 2021 (govdelivery.com). There are a number of upcoming author talks, local history talks, information about their fashion collection, book club, a creative writing session and many more interesting events.
