Planning permission was granted in 2010 to convert the upper floors of Chenil House into flats, with retail on the ground floor (where the shop “Daisy and Tom” used to be), and to build townhouses out-of-sight behind it. The distinctive façade of this quirky building, with its double mansard roof, has been saved as a result of a concerted effort by its many supporters. It was built in 1905 and the foundation stone was laid by Augustus John. It has a long association with the arts. The façade of the gabled brick building next door was also saved.
