2010 – a large, electrically operated, refuse compactor was placed at the front of the car park in Stewart’s Grove. It was noisy, unsightly and required porters from the hospital to cart rubbish to it along Stewart’s Grove. The hospital was encouraged to remove it, which they did. It was returned to its original position, away from the street, and rubbish is taken to it from within the hospital using a hoist, thus avoiding the need to use Stewart’s Grove. If the noise of the compactor disturbs residents, the hospital will have to look at ways to quieten it.
Also, the hospital planned to store bins of clinical waste at the rear of houses near the top of Stewart’s Grove. After objections were raised, the hospital found an alternative location for them, away from residents.
